engagement party

Date posted:

As the conversation reverberates
off the punctured walls,
the drinks flow easy and free.
You'll find me in the corner
notebook hand in, penning this poem happily.

As the guests the line the walls,
seated in chairs,
sharing tales, both tall and true
I recline and relax, and satiated in my words
position myself as the social recluse.

Each has their connection
to the future bride and groom.
At the speeches we congregate to hear
there are pockets of laughter, and applauses erupts
on conclusion as we toast and cheer.

Then out comes the food
and the guests gather round
bounteous fine fare to consume
cupcakes, quiches, slices and pies
but to my dismay no macaroons.
