reprieves

Date posted:

I hold your body close to mine
My racing heart absorbed by your grains
Reverberating strums propel me
towards a brighter place.

My fingers know just what to do
My foot taps auto-synced on the ground
The fretboards and neck that I press
elevates my smile from a frown.

but still I leave you sitting in the corner
when the darkness overcomes
and I am frozen

I feel the wind across my back
My upheaved breath overtaken by the sound
Recurring waves assure me of
a world wider than my mind.

My feet know just what to do
The particles sweetly transgress my toes
The quality company that I keep
draw me out into the unknown.

but sometimes I am left sitting in the corner
when the darkness overcomes
and I am frozen

I hear the poems inside my head
My frazzled mind flattened by those words
Structured expression and sweet release
of knowing that my voice is heard.

My hands knows just what to write
The letters form words on the page
In the moments that I am absorbed
everything else just fades away.
