Hinchinbrook

Date posted:

I broke the camera on the first day
so photos of my trip may be hard to find
so all I have to recall of my trek
are memories, objects and images in my mind.

The rope on the beach at sunset
as day one drew to a close.
Fear, water crossings and slippery rocks
not the start I would have chose.

Swimming at the waterfall, refreshed
after a challenging mornings climb.
Spaghetti Bolognaise at sunset, vegetables
fond memories implanted in my mind.

A lush dense rainforest to walk through
confidence gained when hopping rocks.
A white sand beach, chicken curry
a confused lagoon, both hot and cold.

More rocks to hop and balance on
a challenging climb up Nina's Peak.
Armies of sandflies on Blacksand Beach,
thankfully dispersed once the smoke had leak.

The final sunrise on the island
platoon pictionary to pass the time
an hour long ferry to the mainland.
Hinchinbrook you've been sublime.
